We like to stock up on frozen appetizers, snacks that just need to be reheated in the oven, something all but the tiniest of travelers can handle. We bake them a couple at a time, spreading them out throughout the evening, and it almost feels as if we are attending some fancy soiree with waiters in black and white circulating among the guests, each with a new hors d’oeuvres on their tray. Your kitchen in your holiday rental may lack the waiters, but we can assure you that there will be plenty of counter space to hold all the different appetizers and the ovens will be in prime condition, easily baking the yummy treats. And if champagne isn’t your drink of choice, many properties will offer blenders and we can tell you from experience that a Jack Frost (a winter margarita) is an excellent New Year’s Eve drink!

Our large televisions will televise the New York City celebration in all its crystal-clear beauty, and maybe it is our imaginations, but the sequins seem to sparkle brighter and the crystals on the big ball shine so bright you may need sunglasses against the glare. The countdown to the new year begins with live music, cheering crowds, and that first kiss at midnight; for families, a group hug always sets the new year off to the best start. And don’t forget that it may be possible to see the fireworks from your balcony, so pull on a coat, grab the family, another glass of champagne, and head out the glass doors to be entranced by the explosion of color in the dark skies!
