The Branson Veterans Museum

The Branson Veterans Memorial Museum is an inspiring and heartfelt museum. The museum was designed, funded, and built by Fred Hoppe, who was inspired by the stories he heard from his father, along with the veterans who fought alongside his father during World War II. He desired to honor is father, and he honored him with a special exhibit and mural depicting his father’s heroic rescue of a wounded soldier.

Branson’s veterans museum official opened on November 11, 2000. It is composed of 10 great halls covering wars and conflicts of the 20th Century. Visitors can start in the World War I Hall and travel through other wars including World Wart II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and others. When you visit the veterans museum in Branson, you will be awestruck by the enormous effort of Mr. Hoppe, as well as the stunning exhibits and collections.

Creating the Museum

Hoppe spent more than 25 years researching and interviewing veterans, and wrote each script for each display. He also worked with combat artists such as Mike Hagel, James Dietz, and others to create dozens of murals. To accompany the artwork, Hoppe detailed the history of the nation’s valiant battles for our liberty through the 20th Century. Additionally, he donated more than 2,000 rare military artifacts to the museum.

During the initial phases of the museum, Hoppe had contacted numerous foundations and organizations seeking funding help—and was turned down by all. He says, "It became apparent that I would have to take things into my own hands. The experts kept telling me that it would take six years to complete a project of this magnitude, however with our veterans dying at a rate of over one thousand per day, I was driven to finish this project quickly."
