The Sight and Sound Theatres is affectionately known as the “Christian Broadway.” It is the largest faith-based live theater in the United States. Nearly a million visitors from around the globe travel to see a show at one of the two theaters—one in Branson and one in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Founded by Glenn Eshelman of Lancaster County, he took his artistic background as a painter and photographer in an inspirational presentation to churches, schools, and civic organizations throughout the country.
In 1976, the Sight and Sound theatre opened doors and was later renamed the Living Waters Theatre to present the debut performance of A Land of Our Own. The first full-length production, Behold the Lamb, debuted in 1987.
Productions grew in size, as did the audiences who wanted to see the shows, so it became clear that a larger space was required. The Sight & Sound Entertainment Centre opened in 1991, within just a mile of the original theater. Unfortunately, a devastating fire destroyed the Entertainment Centre in 1997, and in September of 1998, an all-new theater opened with a larger capacity, with the goal of bringing the Bible to life.
The new theater has 2000 seats, a 300-foot stage, and the latest in sound and lighting technology. And, in May of 2008, the famous Sight and Sound Theater of Branson, MO opened with a performance of Noah the Musical.
Throughout the years, these theaters have produced many inspiring productions, including Miracle of Christmas, Noah the Musical, Colors of Praise, Abraham & Sarah—A Journey of Love, Behold the Lamb, and Samson.
